Summary

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER - None of this is real and all of it is true。 --Jim Carrey

Meet Jim Carrey。 Sure, he's an insanely successful and beloved movie star drowning in wealth and privilege--but he's also lonely。 Maybe past his prime。 Maybe even 。。。 getting fat? He's tried diets, gurus, and cuddling with his military-grade Israeli guard dogs, but nothing seems to lift the cloud of emptiness and ennui。 Even the sage advice of his best friend, actor and dinosaur skull collector Nicolas Cage, isn't enough to pull Carrey out of his slump。

But then Jim meets Georgie: ruthless ingnue, love of his life。 And with the help of auteur screenwriter Charlie Kaufman, he has a role to play in a boundary-pushing new picture that may help him uncover a whole new side to himself--finally, his Oscar vehicle! Things are looking up!

But the universe has other plans。

Memoirs and Misinformation is a fearless semi-autobiographical novel, a deconstruction of persona。 In it, Jim Carrey and Dana Vachon have fashioned a story about acting, Hollywood, agents, celebrity, privilege, friendship, romance, addiction to relevance, fear of personal erasure, our one big soul, Canada, and a cataclysmic ending of the world--apocalypses within and without。

Well it was weird! Everybody who read it seem to agree on that at least。 But I didn't like it! The first third of it was great, it was funny, had good social criticism and I enjoy reading it。 Then it became more Hollywoody and weirder until the last third where it was more or less tons of non-sense shooting all over the place。 I would have prefer for Carey to keep the style it had in the beginning not pushing way to far in the absurdity of it。 For me absurdity and humor are a thin line where you Well it was weird! Look。 Listen。 This book is coated in pretentious profoundness and moments of honest sincerity。 It's also incredibly ridiculous and satirical。 I loved it。Nic Cage is phenomenal and exactly how you expect him to be portrayed, too。Trigger warning for small but graphic instances of body horror??? Also suicide。 Look。 Listen。 This book is coated in pretentious profoundness and moments of honest sincerity。 It's also incredibly ridiculous and satirical。 I loved it。Nic Cage is phenomenal and exactly how you expect him to be portrayed, too。Trigger warning for small but graphic instances of body horror??? One of the strangest books I’ve ever read (listened to)。 Creativity gets a star?

Audiobook。 Weird。 Rambling。 Useless

I loved this book!! Its quirky and ridiculous at times, and I can see that it wouldn’t be for everyone, but I laughed so much throughout。 Carrey pokes so much fun at himself and many of his friends and colleagues。 The imagination these two authors had in coming up with this story line added to the humour。 The descriptive writing is fantastic。

Nicole Najar

Imagining Salman Rushdie reading this with giggles and gasps。 Enjoyable, livid, unexpectedly poignant。 Left me with gratitude and a sense of the vastness of Jim Carrey’s inner world。 Perhaps an acquired taste, but like nothing and everything。 Loved!

This changed from a satire on celebrity culture to something just plain weird。 I had a way different expectation for this, “memoir。” 😢

Is is fact mixed with fiction? I。。。guess? Would it be worth it to try and distinguish one from the other? Um, maybe, not sure。 Seemed to me that book's title is appropriate, and not at the same time: "Memoirs and Misinformation。" Either way, the tome is a head-scratcher for sure。Jim Carrey is indeed one of the greatest comedic actors ever。 I mean, the man knows funny。 I can app Amusing at times, but what is this oddball literary offering from the great comic mind of Jim Carrey (and Dana Vachon)? Is is fact mixed with fiction? I。。。guess? Would it be worth it to try and distinguish one from the other? Um, maybe, not sure。 Seemed to me that book's title is appropriate, and not at the same time: "Memoirs and Misinformation。" Either way, the tome is a head-scratcher for sure。Jim Carrey is indeed one of the greatest comedic actors ever。 I mean, the man knows funny。 I can appreciate that Carrey might have gained some great spiritual depth and understanding over the last ten years or so。 I also appreciate the effort he and his co-author made to combine Jim Carrey's celebrity and brilliant sense of humor with deep insight and wisdom of time, space, humanity and the universe。 However in practice, the resulting literature felt more pretentious than profound, and more forced than truly funny。。。。and there ARE some funny things in "Memoirs and Misinformation。" The author(s) paints humorous, on-brand characterizations of celebrities like Kelsey Grammer, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kanye West, Sean Penn, Tom Hanks and Nicolas Cage, and also pokes fun at the corporate mentality and dehumanization of modern day Hollywood。 The book also touches on the left-of-center people who gravitate towards Hollywood。。。the A-listers who want to be SUPER A-listers (Oscars and such) as well as the B and C-listers who consciously and unconsciously perform desperate acts in order to climb to the next level of stardom。Even among the crazy asides and the fantastical, science fiction story-arcs, Jim Carrey's heart is on full display in "Memoirs and Misinformation。" The actor sill laments on the loss of his past romantic relationships with actress Rene Zellweger, and singer Linda Rondstadt, and his soul cherishes the thoughts and memories of his parents。 Though Carrey expresses a deep love of his daughter and grandson, he makes it clear that longs for female companionship without the burden of children to contend with。With riches beyond his wildest dreams, the Jim Carrey as revealed in "Memoirs and Misinformation" is still nonetheless a lonely man, whose singularity works as both his strength and his weakness。 He's a man who's reasonable need for privacy and security has perhaps gotten the better of him, resulting in an overcautious paranoia that comes part and parcel with "the trappings of fame。" Yet what of this End of The World alien invasion malarky that closes the book? It was as if the author(s) deliberately drove what remained of the story off the rails。 As with much of "Memoirs and Misinformation," I enjoyed the idea of it more than the actual execution, especially in the concept of humanity (and specific movie stars) turning into who they REALLY are in a time of crisis。By the time the final words were spoken on the last page of "Memoirs and Misinformation," I was already disengaged from both the characters and the story。 I jumped ship around the time Carrey began work on the Hungry Hungry Hippos movie, where he sold his digital essence to the company that owned CAA。 The more fantastical the book got, the more I began to lose interest。 Truth is much more interesting than fiction, at least it can be。 I'm fairly certain that Jim Carrey's truth, had it been more pronounced in "Memoirs and Misinformation," would have been far more fascinating than the fiction he and his writing partner came up with。 。。。more

Had to put down…a little over a third of the way and it really went off the rails…it started on a bit of good way with some interesting cameos of known actors pulling off some ridiculously funny bits then the story just took a sharp turn into crazy with no hand brake…oh well

Jag har ju dokumenterat dåligt omdöme, högst grovkalibrerat och notoriskt tvivelaktigt。 Eller så är det bara roligt att skriva så。 Och ibland måste man statuera ett exempel。 Fyra krumelurer? If Jim Carey were a book, this would be it。 I honestly can’t figure it just。 Some of it was pointless。 Some of it was funny。 Some of it was smart。 I just don’t know… It could be amusing as a film if all the other actors he makes fun of played themselves。 The best part was Nicolas Cage being described exactly as he probably is。

It's important to state that I only made it half way through the book and I'm debating with myself as to whether I should finish it。 It's very rare I will abandon a book halfway through。 It's extremely possible that the artistry has flown over my head and I've missed an important point in the narrative but personally this book has to rank as the most self indulgent and pretentious pice of writing that I've ever read。Carey is an icon and has produced tremendous comedy and drama。 I've personally e It's important to state that I only made it half way through the book and I'm debating with myself as to whether I should finish it。 It's very rare I will abandon a book halfway through。 It's extremely possible that the artistry has flown over my head and I've missed an important point in the narrative but personally this book has to rank as the most self indulgent and pretentious pice of writing that I've ever read。Carey is an icon and has produced tremendous comedy and drama。 I've personally enjoyed many of his works and whilst I personally think celebrities should be free to enjoy a private life, like everyone else, I enjoy a peak behind the curtain at the greats。Carey seems to position himself as a troubled messiah figure in this fictionalised version of himself。 How much of this is tounge in cheek is unclear but dear god it is relentless。 。。。more

Mind expanding, confounding, delightful, icky, absurd, very absurd, pop art using pop figures, stupid, brilliant。 Shades of Burroughs, Vonnegut, and the now not as cool DFW。 Seems like it could have been best represented as two separate books but the fact that Carrey can create worlds from words is somewhat of a revelation to this reader at least。 But what would you expect from the guy who destroyed the leading man ideal in Ace Ventura? The title gives away two things:1。 This does not have the 'normal structure of a novel (Memoirs and。。。)2。 It is not completely factual (。。。 and Misinformation)。 If you start reading this with any expectation that it will be anything like an early film of superstar Jimothy Carrey then you will be disappointed。 If you expect something more along the lines of later Carrey productions such as Eternal Sunshine or Kidding then you'll have some idea of what you're getting yourself into。 If you read Cha The title gives away two things:1。 This does not have the 'normal structure of a novel (Memoirs and。。。)2。 It is not completely factual (。。。 and Misinformation)。 If you start reading this with any expectation that it will be anything like an early film of superstar Jimothy Carrey then you will be disappointed。 If you expect something more along the lines of later Carrey productions such as Eternal Sunshine or Kidding then you'll have some idea of what you're getting yourself into。 If you read Charlie Kaufman's Antkind then replace the main character with Jimothy Carrey then you'll expect the type of absurdist, surreal novel you're getting。 It is fabulous。 I'd write that no matter whose name was on the cover。 It is a strange, fantastic and difficult dive into celebrity culture, touching on the topics of legacy, technology, power in relationships, spirituality, grief, depression but mainly focusing on loss。 The loss of youth, fame, opportunity。 There are three acts to the novel。 First is finding love/Kaufman's Mao film。 Second is losing love/Hungry, Hungry Hippos movie。 Third comes the surrealist, alien action-movie finale。 Carrey is in a unique position to be able to include dozens of famous cameos like Hopkins, Cage, Paltrow, Grammer and even a CGI Rodney Dangerfield but it's the winding, meandering story that truly captivates。 It reminded me of a faster-paced, funnier, more original Once Upon a Time in 。。。 Hollywood (coincidentally Tarantino makes an appearance)。 If you leave your expectations at the cover and go with the stormy, choppy flow then you are bound to like this paradoxical semi autobiography (paradoxical because Carrey and Dana Vachon wrote it in 3rd person and it's not true)。 I'd love to see this as a movie with everyone playing themselves and Jack Black as Natchez Gushue。 。。。more
